If you are starting to learn a language, English or French, maybe you have already learnt the 7 days of the week and the 4 seasons. You also need to know the 12 months of the year.
Good to know: in English you need to capitalize the names of the months, but not in French.
January | janvier |
February | février |
March | mars |
April | avril |
May | mai |
June | juin |
July | juillet |
August | août |
September | septembre |
October | octobre |
November | novembre |
December | décembre |
In English, the months of the year are introduced by the preposition “in” when you want to say when something happens. For example, you can say:
- Summer begins in June.
In French, to say which month something takes place or happens, you can introduce the month with the preposition “en”, or say “au mois de ”:
- L’été commence en juin.
- L’été commence au mois de juin.
Note the word “mois” is a masculine noun: le mois
Here is a set of flashcards for you to learn and practice!
